Professor Prakash Persad currently serves as the President of the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT). He is a former Senator and Senate Minority Leader of the Parliament of Trinidad and Tobago. Professor Persad also served as a Member of a National ICT Committee housed in the former Ministry of Science and Technology. He is a former Chairman of the National Institute of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (NIHERST).

Professor Persad pioneered research in AI and robotics at the University of the West Indies (UWI) and continues at UTT. He has successfully supervised ten (10) PhD students in the areas of AI, robotics and entrepreneurship.
